“We have three boys aged 6, 10 and 12 so it’s important for us to travel to places that are interesting and exciting for the entire gang.”

FEATURED DESTINATION
MEXICO

Mexico is one of our favourite places to travel with our children and there’s so much for all ages to enjoy!  From swimming in secret underground caves, to pristine white sand beaches, amazing museums, great food, stunning architecture, wonderful music and amazing people.

We really love the town of Merida.  Actually, it’s a city, but it has the feel of a town.  The thing we love about Merida is that it is truly such an authentic Mexican city.  It’s not hugely known as a tourist destination and as such, has managed to retain a very local feel (unlike the high rises, condominiums and endless hotels of Puerto Vallarta or Cancun).

It’s a wonderful spot to start exploring, as the beaches of Tulum, the ancient Mayan ruins and the Cenotes (underground swimming caves) are all within arms reach.

ACCOMMODATION TIP!

Make sure you book somewhere with a pool, it’s amazing how refreshing a dip is after a day exploring on the Mexican heat.

Nomade Hotel in Tulum is a definite favourite of ours.  It’s a really special place where unplugging is a must!  They have an incredible set up on the beach, with big family sized beach beds under canopies, a focus on incredible local, organic healthy food, bikes to use to explore Tulum and amazing family accommodation, from beachside glamping tents to small family villas.

Try and stay away from the big touristy Cenotes that are close to Tulum.  They are often so full of people that you need to get there before breakfast to have some space! The smaller Cenotes dotted around the entire peninsula (further from Tulum), are not only more beautiful than the ones close to Tulum, but are also usually empty.  Quite often we were the only ones swimming in these stunning underground caves.

EVENING EATS

Our no-fail go to restaurant in Merida is Mercado 60.  It’s actually more of a super beautiful night food market!  With lot’s of choice for amazing fresh local food, great cocktails and live music – plus dancing under the stars in the warm outdoor air.  There’s so much to enjoy for the whole family!

BEST BEACH

It’s pretty hard to beat the beaches of Tulum.  Think pristine white sand and the warm blues of the Caribbean Ocean.  Absolute heaven!
